Ana Paula Tavares

Angolan writer, historian, anthropologist and literary scholar. She studied history, Brazilian literature and Lusophone African literatures at the University of Lisbon, where she also earned a PhD in historical anthropology. Her research focuses on the history and literature of Africa, especially Angola. She is a researcher, university lecturer and collaborator with the RDP-Africa radio station. She has published a number of scholarly books, chapters in edited collections and prose texts and poetry. Several of her poems have been published in Czech in a magazine (PLAV 9/2020, Between Oceans: Voices of the Women of Lusophone Africa), translated by Lucie Koryntová and Marie Havlíková. The author has a distinctive language in which memories, African identity and criticism of Angola’s social problems are intertwined.
